Numeracy
This week in Reception children have been playing with, exploring and identifying patterns, including line symmetry in images and simple shapes. We have had lots of fun creating our own patterns and extending repeating patterns.
Reception have been reading the story of ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. We made a story map to help us retell the story. We then had a go writing some words from the story.
RE
Miss Hickey led a Collective Worship for Reception, Year 1 and 2 all about being ‘Compassionate and Loving’. We listened to a hymn ‘Father, I adore you’. We spoke about all the things we love and why they are special to us. We completed our own hearts and drew things in it that we love.

Numeracy
This week Reception have been exploring capacity using the water and a variety of containers. We have been developing our language using words like ‘empty’, ‘full’, ‘more’ and ‘less’. We have also been using construction blocks to build our own castles from Jack and the Beanstalk and talking about how tall and short things are. We have also been developing fine motor skills and number recognition by threading and weaving string into large numbers. A lovely sunny week to be outside exploring maths all around us!
ICT
Reception have been using the iPad’s to complete a programme called ‘turtle’.
Literacy
Reception Class have been reading Jack and the Beanstalk. This week we received a letter from the Giant who was very cross because his harp and hen have gone missing! We wrote a letter back to the Giant saying we would help him find them. The children then wrote their own letters to the Giant.
Science
Reception Class went on a walk around our outdoor area to explore the environment around us. The children were making observations and looking for similarities and differences. We talked about how the seasons change and how the environment reacts to these changes.
Literacy
Reception have been reading the story of ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. We made a story map to help us retell the story. Then we thought of some different ideas for our new story called ‘We’re going on a tiger hunt’. The children loved this story and have been really enthused to do some fabulous writing and drawing.
Religious Education
Reception Class have been learning about the Story of Creation. We read the story and talked about all the things God made. The children helped to make a beautiful display in our classroom. During prayer time we discussed the things we love most about God’s World.
No Pens Day
Reception Class children and staff gave up their pens and pencils for the day on Wednesday 12th July.
A fun day was had by all, we focused on our talking and listening skills while den making, re-enacting our poems and playing maths games.
