Mental Health amd Well-being Support

Mental Health and Well-being

Here at St John Fisher, we aim to promote positive mental health and well-being for our whole school community (children, staff, parents and carers), and recognise how important mental health and emotional well-being are to our lives, in just the same way as physical health. We recognise that children’s mental health is a crucial factor in their overall well-being and can affect their learning and achievement.

“Mental health is a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.” (World Health Organisation 2014)

We want all our children to:

- Feel confident in themselves

- Be able to express a range of emotions appropriately

- Be able to make and maintain positive relationships with others

- Cope with the stresses of everyday life.

- Manage times of stress and be able to deal with change.

- Learn and achieve

Some of the ways in which we promote this are:

  • We are proud to be a 'My Happy Mind' school, weekly lessons support children to understand their own mental health and provide tools to help them succeed and achieve their potential
  • As a Catholic school, 10% of our curriculum time is dedicated to teaching RE, where the children learn about the life and teachings of Jesus.
  • We work with external agencies to support our children, where there are concerns for  mental health and well-being
  • We work in partnership with parents and carers, encouraging conversations and offering additional support where needed.
  • We have a weekly Mission Ambassador award and Gift From God awards, which celebrate individual achievements and help pupils feel confident in themselves.

The lead for Mental Health and Well-being at school is Miss Musto. If you would like some additional support, or just someone to talk to about a concern or worry, please call the school office on 0121 475 3489 and ask to speak to her.

Children's Mental Health Week 2026- Place 2 Be

This year, children's mental health week will run from 9-15th February and the theme for the week will be " This is my Place". Throughout the week we will be looking at how we can build a sense of belonging in our school and community, helping our children to thrive.
