Task:
In this lesson, children will learn how to solve problems with money that involve adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing with amounts of money that are given in pounds and pence. Some children may not realise what calculation the problem is asking them to do and may just add the numbers given. Children need to understand how the words in the problem help them to select the necessary calculation. To support ask: What does the word ‘total’ mean? Does it suggest you need to add or subtract? What about the word ‘change’? If you need to work out the change, what calculation could you do?
