Hello Year 3!
In this lesson, children will measure the perimeters of a range of shapes in both centimetres and millimetres. Children sometimes measure and add the same side length more than once when calculating the perimeter. In order to help them avoid this, encourage them to work systematically from a starting point moving in one direction around the shape, recording each side length as they go. To support ask: Where did you start measuring? How many measurements have you worked out? Which ones do you have left to do? Is there a way you can keep track of which sides you’ve already measured?
