Hello everyone. Today we are starting our new topic- Statistics! 



In this lesson, children will interpret pictograms where each symbol is worth more than 1.  Some children may believe that each pictogram symbol always represents ‘1’. Draw attention to the key and ask:  Where can you look on the pictogram to find out what each symbol is worth?

Children may count half symbols as full symbols. To help address this, identify a half symbol and ask: What do you notice about this symbol? Is it the same size as the symbol in the key?

Identify that a half symbol is half the size of the symbol in the key and ask: What do you think this means about the value of this symbol?
